The mission of the Training Business Unit of the Energetic Research and Testing Center of New Mexico Tech is to develop and deliver high quality training as judged by client evaluations and industry standards that is tailored to the needs of the client and reflects the client’s job training requirements.
We meet our goals through a strong cadre of instructors, program managers, research scientists, incomparable testing facilities, highly experienced instructional designers, and an established training record.

EMRTC is a leader in developing and providing DHS/FEMA approved training to qualified First Responders. The primary objective of first responder training is to prevent or circumvent an incident involving explosives. The use of practical exercises, field labs, and job-based case scenarios is integrated in all courses when possible.
EMRTC has a comprehensive foundation of intellectual property relating to energetic materials. This is the result of over fifty-years of testing and evaluating energetic materials and designing training that has been delivered to over a half-million participants. Research, testing operations and facilities are available to enhance training.
Playas Training and Research Center serves government and industry clients, nationally and internationally, that require controlled-environment reality-based test and training venues in any aspect of the science of physical security. PTRC provides a unique, adaptive, controlled and comprehensive range platform to advance the effectiveness and appropriateness of client tactics, techniques, and procedures.
EMRTC has an established reputation of providing support and capability for military training. Numerous military organizations have leveraged our wide range of facilities and support technologies for their particular training needs.
EMRTC has the courses and development capability to provide a wide range of courses in the Border Security area. Specialized master instructors are available to provide technical assistance, delivery of academic classes, and practical exercises.

New Mexico Tech/EMRTC is a proud member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium. The NDPC is a professional alliance sponsored through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Preparedness Directorate to provide high-quality training to emergency responders throughout the United States and its territories.
